On Saturday, June 13, 2009, Mailes Zulu, Executive Director, was on Brain Drain Radio Talk Show were she discussed challenges facing non-government organizations in general and on SEPA in particular. Tune in at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Brain-Drain/2009/06/13/SEPA-
The management of SEPA has been invited for an International Training Programme in Management and Development of NGO's from August 27- September 14, 2009 to be hosted by Galillee College, Israel. While the tuition is being paid by the College, the cost of transportation, food and lodging will have to be borne by the participants. SEPA is seeking for donations to help meet some of the costs
We are committed to giving a better standard of living to all Zambians and educating, in particular, the at-risk and impoverished members of rural towns and villages where help is limited or unavailable from other philanthropic service providers. Our projects emphasize environmental concerns, including environmental education and resource preservation.
We believe that agriculturally sustainable business practices help preserve Zambia’s resources and generate much needed income. Throughout our process, our goal is to give more equitable representation to orphans, vulnerable children, and women. SEPA is also committed to protecting human rights and preventing HIV/AIDS.
SEPA, upholds the philosophy that for a community development intervention to succeed, there should be an effective participation of the local community. Local community participation can take many forms and include decision making, need identification, resource contribution, project management etc. Effective participation should enable the local communities to have a great sense of ownership of the projects.
SEPA views development as People Centered and therefore social development is regarded as a process to allow the improvement in the quality of life of the people in a given locality. To be sustainable development should be bottom up – deriving from the people at the grassroots as well as involving them.
Sustainable development should take into account three aspects of sustainability:
